Dec 30, 2010, 6:27 GMT
Cotabato City, Philippines - Unidentified assailants threw a grenade at an army outpost in the southern Philippines, killing one soldier, a regional military spokesman said Thursday.
Another soldier was wounded in the attack late Wednesday in Kabacan town in North Cotabato province, 930 kilometres south of Manila, Colonel Prudencio Asto said.
Asto said the suspects, who were riding a motorcycle, immediately fled after the attack.
Military and police investigators have not yet determined the motive behind the attack but various Muslim rebel groups and criminal gangs are known to operate in the area.
