Firecracker blast kills three in Thailand
Jan 12, 2011, 4:10 GMT
Bangkok - An explosion Thursday at an illegal firecracker factory in the central Thai province of Ayutthaya killed three people and injured a fourth, police said.
The blast occurred at a wooden house on the outskirts of Ayutthaya city - once the capital of Siam, 90 kilometres north of Bangkok - shortly after a truck arrived to pick up a load of firecrackers, police said.
'A man and two women died in the explosion, which also destroyed the house and injured one neighbour,' Ayutthaya Police Captain Patrawudh Boonyaphan said.
'We're still investigating what caused the explosion,' Patrawudh said in a telephone interview.
