Veteran British sailor feared drowned off New Zealand

Wellington - A 77-year-old solo British yachtsman is feared to have drowned off New Zealand after his boat was found submerged near rocks on an isolated area off Cape Reinga, in the far north of the North Island, police said Friday.
Divers searched the 7.6-metre Boadicea but did not find the body of Malcolm Widdilove, a resident of Britain who reportedly sailed regularly in New Zealand waters.
Police said he telephoned a relative in Britain on January 4 to say he was planning to leave New Zealand to sail to Norfolk Island, news reports said.
His sunken boat was found on Wednesday.
