Aquino orders probe into grisly killing of ex-Marcos lawyer's son
Jan 17, 2011, 6:42 GMT
Manila - Philippine President Benigno Aquino III on Monday condemned the killing of a son of a former lawyer of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos and ordered an investigation.
The charred remains of Emerson Lozano, 44, were recovered by police officers Sunday in Porac town in Pampanga province, 75 kilometres north of Manila.
The victim was a son of Oliver Lozano, a staunch defender of the Marcos family in criminal and civil cases filed against them after Ferdinand Marcos was ousted from power in 1986.
'The discovery of what police have identified as the remains of the son of attorney Oliver Lozano points to a grisly crime that is being thoroughly investigated to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice,' Aquino said.
'All steps will be taken in keeping with the serious nature of the crime,' he added.
The younger Lozano, a businessman, and his driver were reported missing Wednesday when they failed to return home after meeting a client at a petrol station in the Manila suburb of Quezon City.
Police on Thursday recovered the half-burned body of Emerson Lozano's driver in the northern province of Tarlac. He had a bullet wound in the head.
