Former airport official accused of helping migrants board planes
Jan 25, 2011, 4:38 GMT
Hong Kong - A former Cathay Pacific worker is on trial in Hong Kong accused of taking bribes to help illegal immigrants from China board international flights, a news report said Tuesday.
Gordon Ng Ka-wah, 30, a former customer services officer, is accused of providing boarding passes for undocumented migrants to fly to the United States and Europe.
He was allegedly part of a human trafficking syndicate that used Hong Kong International Airport as a hub for transferring migrants overseas, the Hong Kong Standard reported.
Ng was arrested in August 2009 for allegedly using data from the Cathay Pacific computer system to ensure that travellers could board the planes. He received about 70 US dollars per person, it said.
Ng denied the charges. Another Cathay Pacific employee arrested in connection with the case pleaded guilty and is a prosecution witness.
