Taiwan announces cabinet reshuffle
Feb 1, 2011, 11:31 GMT
Taipei - Taiwan's Premier Wu Den-yih Tuesday announced a cabinet reshuffle affecting four portfolios.
Media and analysts said the new ministers who take office February 9 will be charged with tackling natural disasters and addressing public health issues.
Those are the two areas often criticised by the opposition and the public. Poor government handling of a deadly typhoon in 2009 created resentment against the government.
New ministers in the Department of Health, the Public Construction Commission, the National Youth Commission and the Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs Commission.
Wu denied reports that Mainland Affairs Council Minister Lai Shin-yuan would step down, saying Lai has performed well in the position.
