Thailand ranks second worldwide in teen pregnancies

Bangkok - Thailand has the second-highest rate of teenage pregnancy worldwide after only South Africa, a government official said Monday at a seminar marking Valentine's Day.
Samatchai Chomvinya, deputy chief of Thailand's Welfare Promotion Office, said an estimated 70 out of every 1,000 female teenagers in Thailand had children, the Manager online news service reported.
'In modern Thai society, many parents have to work and don't have time to take care of their teenage children who are led in to having early sexual relationships by various uncensored media,' Samatcahi said.
