Cotabato City, Philippines - Four suspected kidnappers were killed Monday during the foiled abduction of a wealthy Chinese businessman in the southern Philippines, an army official said.
Colonel Roy Galido said a group of armed men attempted to snatch a hardware store owner in Midsayap town in Cotabato province, 960 kilometres south of Manila, but responding security guards rescued the trader and killed one of the suspects.
Three more suspects were killed in a shootout with soldiers and police in the nearby village of Polomongen.
Police investigators have not yet established the identities of the suspects.
