Obama to welcome Australian prime minister to White House

Washington - US President Barack Obama will welcome Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard for talks next month in Washington, the White House said Wednesday.
It will mark Gillard's first visit to Washington since becoming prime minister in June. The White House in a statement said the leaders would discuss the war in Afghanistan, their joint economic interests and the 'strong ties' between the two allies.
