Qantas Airbus in emergency landing after cockpit fire
Mar 23, 2011, 23:54 GMT
Sydney - A Qantas passenger jet flying from the Philippines to Sydney diverted to Cairns on Australia's east coast for an emergency landing after a fire broke out in the cockpit, the airline said in a statement Thursday.
Qantas Airways said an electrical malfunction in the cockpit of the A330 caused a small fire near the windscreen.
The pilots put on oxygen masks and extinguishing the flames, then diverted to the nearest airport.
'There were no ill effects or injuries experienced by any of the 147 passengers or 11 crew, and all passengers were accommodated on other domestic services to complete their journey to Sydney,' a spokesman said in a statement about Wednesday's incident.
