Apr 18, 2011, 10:42 GMT
Singapore - A Singapore court Monday jailed for nine years a fugitive lawyer who cheated a businessman out of more than 3.44 million Singapore dollars (2.76 million US dollars), a media report said.
The district court found Tan Cheng Yew guilty of two counts of criminal breach of trust and two of cheating.
In 2001, Tan converted for his own use the money, which belonged to businessman Tan Kwee Khoon and his family.
Tan, 43, also conned the businessman into handing over cheques worth 1.38 million Singapore dollars, Channel News Asia reported.
Tan was arrested by German police in Munich in June 2009 and was extradited to Singapore four months later.
