China executes music student for stabbing young mother to death
Jun 7, 2011, 8:18 GMT
Beijing - China on Tuesday executed a 21-year-old music student convicted of stabbing a young mother to death in a case that shocked the nation.
The official Xinhua News Agency reported Yao Jiaxin was executed in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province in northwest China, after a provincial high court rejected his appeal against the sentence.
The Intermediate People's Court in Xi'an sentenced Yao to death on April 22 for the murder of Zhang Miao, 26, in October.
Yao, a student at Xi'an Conservatory of Music, was driving his car when it hit Zhang as she rode a bicycle. Instead of helping the victim, he stabbed her to death, fearing she would write down his car's number plate and demand compensation.
Yao fled after committing the murder but surrendered to police in the company of his parents four days later.
