Japan bullet train stops after snake seen on passenger seat
Jul 4, 2011, 10:56 GMT
Tokyo - A Japanese bullet train came to a screeching halt Monday after a snake was found on a passenger seat, local media reported.
The train stopped at Maibara Station, between Osaka and Kyodo, while authorities captured the 1-meter snake, Kyodo News reported citing Central Japan Railway Co.
The red-and-black Honduran milk snake was probably the escaped pet of a passenger who brought it into the train car, the railway operator said.
No injuries were reported among the some 200 passengers, it said. Police were looking for the owner.
Passengers are allowed to bring animals such as bring dogs and cats, but not snakes, according to the operator.
