Taiwan military to conduct computerized war games
Jul 12, 2011, 10:08 GMT
Taipei - Taiwan is to hold its annual computerized war games drill next week to test its military capabilities, Defence Ministry officials said.
The five-day exercise named Han Kuang 27 is to start Monday, Major General Hau I-chih from the Warfare Planning Department said.
The drill would address various scenarios including a possible attack on the island by China, which has acquired its first aircraft carrier.
'We assume (in the drill) that the aircraft carrier approached Taiwan's east coast and considered if we should deter it or attack it,' Hau said.
'We will examine the navy's ability to launch a fast attack and 19 other scenarios to boost asymmetric combat capability,' he said.
Taiwan and China split at the end of a civil war in 1949. Beijing still regards Taiwan as its breakaway province.
