Jilted groom-to-be sues ex for change of mind
Aug 9, 2011, 4:51 GMT
Kuala Lumpur - A Malaysian man who was jilted six hours before his wedding is suing his ex-fiancee for 1.1 million ringgit (360,000 dollars) for causing him distress, a newspaper reported Tuesday.
Mohamad Masran Abdul Rahman, 32, named his former flame Norzuliyana Mat Hassan and her father as defendants in his suit, which covered defamation and other damages, the New Straits Times paper said.
The couple had planned to hold their wedding on June 4 in the north-eastern state of Kelantan, but just hours before the ceremony was to begin, Norzuliyana allegedly called it off, Mohamad Masran's lawyer told the High Court Monday.
'My client had made full preparations, including sending out invitation cards to some 1,200 guests comprising relatives, friends and neighbours not only from Kelantan, but throughout the country,' said his lawyer.
The report did not state the reasons given by the bride-to-be for cancelling.
