Singapore man gets 24 years in jail, 24 strokes for raping daughter
Aug 13, 2011, 2:02 GMT
Singapore - A Singapore court has sentenced a man who repeatedly raped his daughter over several years to 24 years in jail and the maximum 24 strokes of the cane, a media report said Saturday.
The 44-year-old repairman, who was not named to protect the victim's identity, first raped the girl when she was 10 years old in 2003, the Straits Times newspaper reported.
The crimes came to light only in March 2010 when the girl confided in her mother after being raped again by her dad, it said.
The girl, who is now 18 and a student, told the court that her father acted 'like an animal.'
The man pleaded guilty to four counts of rape and one count of sodomy, but more counts of sexual assault and rape had been taken into consideration, the report said.
