Tokyo - A woman died and three people including one child were missing after a tour boat with some 20 passengers on board capsized Wednesday in central Japan, news reports said.
When the boat overturned at a rocky section of the rapidly flowing Tenryu River in Shizuoka, some 10 passengers were thrown overboard, Kyodo News reported citing authorities.
Three women and one man were taken to hospital, but one woman was confirmed dead and another woman was unconscious, Kyodo said. The other six were rescued without serious injury.
The boat was equipped with life jackets, however, it was not known if the passengers were wearing them, Kyodo said citing the operator.
The boat along with two others left for a 6-kilometre cruise down the river at 1:30 pm (0430 GM). The place is well known for boat tours.
