Beijing - A man armed with an axe killed at least four people and seriously injured two others after he attacked adults and children in China's central province of Henan on Wednesday.
The man attacked the six people on a street in Henan's Gongyi city early Wednesday, killing three adults and a girl of preschool age, the official Xinhua news agency quoted a local government spokesman as saying.
Another preschool child and one adult were hospitalized with serious injuries, the spokesman said.
He said police had arrested 30-year-old Wang Hongbin, 'a local farmer who is suspected of being mentally ill,' in connection with the attack.
