Passenger plane slides into ditch at Taiwan airport
Sep 27, 2011, 3:46 GMT
Taipei - An airliner slid into a ditch at an airport in Taipei after landing with 301 passengers from Shanghai, but no injuries were reported, officials said Tuesday.
The Airbus A330 flown by China Airlines Ltd turned by mistake onto a military apron at the Taipei Songshan Airport late Monday, and its right wheels slipped into a grassy ditch, Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration said in a statement online.
All passengers were safely evacuated within an hour, and the aircraft showed no external damage, the statement said. Air safety officials were investigating.
Songshan Airport, previously used as a military base and for domestic flights, in 2008 opened routes to Tokyo and nearby parts of China to promote trade and tourism.
