New Zealand brewer blacks out "unfortunate" billboard
Oct 7, 2011, 2:58 GMT
Wellington - A New Zealand brewery said Friday it was blacking out an 'unfortunate' roadside billboard in Auckland after complaints that it was in bad taste following the death of Apple Inc co-founder Steve Jobs.
The billboard reading 'Job's done. Yeah right' was visible to thousands of drivers on a city motorway.
Tui Brewery spokeswoman Jo Jalfon said the ad was posted 10 days ago as an ironic comment after the national team beat France in a Rugby World Cup match.
The team has several more games to play before it can claim that the job of winning the cup has been done.
'It's just an unfortunate coincidence that they chose the phrase 'Job's done', which is quite a common phrase,' she said.
The double panel billboards with the sarcastic and jokey sign-off 'Yeah right' are a Tui trademark.
The brewery ran into trouble last year with one reading, 'Let's take a moment this Christmas to think about Christ. Yeah right.' It was removed after Christians complained.
