Indonesian police arrested five terror suspects
Oct 8, 2011, 12:30 GMT
Jakarta - Police in Indonesia said Saturday they had made five arrests in connection with the Cirebon mosque attack in West Java in April.
In a televised press conference, National Police spokesperson, Inspector General Anton Bahrul Alam, said the suspect terrorists were arrested in separate locations in Jakarta and West Java.
'We arrested Heru Komarudin in Jakarta. He was on our wanted list related to the Cirebon bomb,' Anton said.
A suicide bomber, later identified as Muhammad Syarif, blew himself up at a mosque inside a police compound in the West Java city of Cirebon on April 15, injuring 30 worshippers, mostly police officers.
Indonesia is the world's largest Muslim-majority country but is officially secular. Christians make up about 10 per cent of the country's 240 million citizens.
Indonesia has been hit by a series of bombings since 2000 in a campaign blamed on Islamist militants.
In the latest terror attack, a suicide bomber blew himself up at a church in Solo, Central Java, injuring 22 worshippers.
Indonesian police have identified the suicide bomber as Ahmad Yosepa Hayat, a member of Jamaah Ansharut Tauhid (JAT), an organization linked to convicted terrorist Abu Bakar Baasyir.
