Beijing - A gas explosion at a coal mine in central China killed 28 miners and left one trapped inside, state media reported rescuers as saying Sunday.
Thirty five miners were inside when the explosion occurred Saturday evening in Hengyang city of Hunan province. Six were rescued and taken to hospital, Xinhua news agency said.
Dozens of rescuers were searching for the trapped miner, officials said.
The 40-year-old mine is a state-owned operation employing more than 160 miners, Xinhua said.
