Nov 11, 2011, 9:38 GMT
Tokyo - South Korean lawmakers arrived Friday by helicopter at disputed islets in the Sea of Japan for an classical concert despite Tokyo's opposition, news reports said.
The concert, organized by the five South Korean lawmakers was to be held later in the day at a dock on the small island known as Takeshima in Japan and Dokdo in South Korea, Kyodo News reported.
Seoul said it planned the event to raise the spirits of its coast guard units stationed on the islets, which lie around half-way between the countries, are controlled by South Korea but also claimed by Japan.
Japan was to lodge a protest to South Korea, Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura told a news conference.
Japan's Foreign Ministy had earlier urged Seoul to scrap the concert.
