Report: North Korea tests air-to-sea missiles
Nov 16, 2011, 4:24 GMT
Seoul - North Korean forces recently tested air-to-sea missiles off the western coast of the peninsula, a news report said Wednesday, citing Seoul government sources.
In October and November, a North Korean IL-28 bomber conducted the tests of a modified version of the Styx ground-to-sea missiles, the South Korean Yonhap News Agency reported.
The Yellow Sea to the west of the Koreas is divided by the Northern Limit Line, a contested border between the two territories drawn up after the 1950-53 conflict.
The area near the line has been the site of several skirmishes over the past decades, most recently in November 2010 when North Korea shelled the South Korean island of Yeonpyeong, killing four.
South Korea has added Chunma ground-to-air missiles to Yeonpyeong since the attack, which could be used against any North Korean aircraft crossing the Northern Limit Line, the Yonhap report said, citing unnamed government sources.
