Two injured as Hong Kong shoppers scrap for cut-price Versace

Nov 18, 2011, 4:06 GMT

Hong Kong - Two security guards were hospitalised as scuffles broke out in a rush to buy cut-price Versace clothes in Hong Kong, a news report said Friday.

The security guards were beaten in an argument over alleged queue-jumping as more than 300 customers waited to buy a new, low-cost Versace line at an H&M store Thursday, the Hong Kong Standard reported.

A woman was accused of queue-jumping by the guards and returned with two men described by the Standard as muscular. They beat up the guards and fled, according to the newspaper.

Hundreds queued outside H&M stores across the city as the cut-price Versace line went on sale in the shops Thursday. Customers were limited to one item each from the collection, which is priced at between 299 and 3,000 Hong Kong dollars (38 and 385 US dollars).

This month, police were called to control skirmishes as Hong Kong customers queued for up to three days to be among the first to buy the new Apple iPhone 4S when it went on sale in the city.
