Thai premier to discuss trade and energy during Vietnam visit
Nov 30, 2011, 9:54 GMT
Hanoi - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra arrived Wednesday in Vietnam for a one-day visit that included talks on trade and energy issues.
Yingluck and her Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Tan Dung were also set to discuss food security during their meeting in Hanoi, according to Vietnamese and Thai media.
The two Southeast Asian nations are the world's two largest rice exporters, with Thailand in first place.
It is the Thai premier's first visit to Vietnam since being elected to office in August this year. The two leaders also met on the sidelines of the recent ASEAN summit in Bali, Indonesia.
The visit had earlier been in doubt as Yingluck was hospitalized Tuesday.
Two-way trade between the nations last year was worth 7.2 billion dollars, an increase of 18 per cent on 2009.
The two nations mark 35 years of diplomatic ties this year.
