World's oldest dog dies at 26 in Japan
Dec 7, 2011, 5:13 GMT
Tokyo - The world's oldest dog certified by the Guinness World Records died at its home in eastern Japan, at the age of 26 years and 9 months, local media reported Wednesday.
'I'm so sad,' the owner Yumiko Shinohara was quoted by local paper Shimotsuke Shimbun as saying. 'I would like to tell him that I appreciate he lived a long healthy life.'
Pusuke, a male cross breed, died peacefully Monday afternoon, five minutes after Shinohara returned home from running errands.
Pusuke had a good appetite and kept up with its daily morning and evening strolls until Monday morning, when it suddenly refused to eat and appeared to have difficulty breathing, Shinohara was quoted by Kyodo News as saying.
'I think he died of natural causes,' she said. 'It was at least good for him to pass away at home, not at hospital.'
