Flooding warnings for southern Thailand
Dec 18, 2011, 6:49 GMT
Bangkok - Meteorologists on Sunday warned people living on the eastern coastline of the Gulf of Thailand to prepare for heavy rains and possible floods.
The Southern Region Meteorological Centre said residents of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung and Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat should brace themselves for flash floods, the Bangkok Post reported.
The centre also urged small boats to stay ashore Sunday and Monday, when strong winds coming from the China Sea are expected to generate waves as high as 3 metres in the Gulf of Thailand.
Thailand is recovering from devastating floods that swamped the central plains and much of Bangkok during October and November, claiming more than 680 lives and causing billions of dollars in damages.
