Free dollar dazzler for Australian gambler
Dec 24, 2011, 1:55 GMT
Sydney - An Australian pensioner who had a 105,731-Australian-dollar (106,830-US-dollar) pay out from a free go on an Adelaide Casino slot machine can keep her winnings, news reports said Saturday.
Cecilia Cubillo struck lucky 18 months ago when she hit the jackpot with a one-dollar credit that another player had unknowingly left in the machine.
The casino withheld the money while it waited for a ruling on whether Cubillo had broken state government rules that forbid others winning with what are termed 'abandoned credits.'
The Adelaide Advertiser reported that this week the casino had decided to honour the win anyway.
'This is a fantastic win but there are some issues about the way the payment was handled that we need to sit down and talk about in the New Year,' Diana Awarau, Cubillo's friend, said.
'Cecelia is very happy that she has her prize and she and I am going to have a nice Christmas break.'
