Bangkok - Thailand's first female prime minister has been invited as the chief foreign guest at India's Republic Day celebrations on January 26, officials said Wednesday.
Preparations for Yingluck Shinawatra's visit to India on January 24-26 were finalized in Bangkok on Tuesday.
'Every year India invites one government leader as its chief guest to its Republic Day celebration, and this year they have invited Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra,' Foreign Ministry spokesman Thani Thongphakdi said.
The event commemorates India's constitution adopted in 1948.
Yingluck will also witness the signing of a framework for free trade talks and cooperation pacts in science and technology and culture.
