LEAD: Eleven die in hot air balloon crash in New Zealand

Wellington - Eleven people died when a hot air balloon crashed near Carterton, 90 kilometres north of the New Zealand capital, Wellington, on Saturday, news reports said.
The Stuff news website quoted a Wairarapa District Health Board spokeswoman Jill Stringer as saying all 11 board died when the balloon came down.
A police statement confirmed multiple fatalities but gave no other details immediately.
The balloon was on a one-hour sightseeing flight in the Wairarapa province and usually carries up to 10 passengers in the gondola and a pilot.
