Kuala Lumpur - Police detained a local journalist and two freelance writers who were allegedly caught painting graffiti on walls ahead of an opposition rally in Malaysia's capital, an online newspaper said Sunday.
The journalist, working for an opposition publication, and his two cohorts were allegedly caught Saturday by policemen in the suburb of Brickfields, painting derogatory words against Prime Minister Najib Razak's wife, the Star Online said.
The three suspects have been remanded until Tuesday while being investigated for criminal intimidation and gestures intended to outrage the modesty of a person.
Police have allowed supporters of 64-year-old Ibrahim Anwar to gather near the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Monday, when it is expected to rule on the opposition leader's sodomy case.
