Jan 10, 2012, 21:03 GMT
Washington - The waters near Indonesia were struck by a powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday, which prompted a tsunami warning from the Indonesian government.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said on its website that there is a slight possibility of a tsunami.
The U.S. Geological survey said the quake hit 420 kilometres off the coast of Aceh province.
Indonesia is situated on the so-called 'Ring of Fire,' an area in the Pacific that is particularly prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
