Man confesses to motorbike bomb murder in Vietnam
Jan 16, 2012, 4:59 GMT
Hanoi - A man in Vietnam confessed to planting a bomb on a motorbike that killed his sister-in-law and her 4-year-old daughter, authorities said Monday.
Nguyen Duc Tiem, 34, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday more than a month after the deaths in the northern province of Bac Ninh, police said.
'He was so brutal that he intentionally killed his sister-in-law and her daughter even though he knew she was pregnant because of trivial disputes in daily life,' Colonel Nguyen Dang Loi, director of Bac Ninh Provincial Police's Department, told dpa.
'The suspect has admitted to his crimes.'
Nguyen Thi Quynh, 30, and her daughter Nguyen Khanh Van were killed on December 1.
Tiem, who lived next door, became irritated with his sister-in-law for starting her motorbike early in the morning and waking him up. He also quarrelled with her over small issues, police said.
The explosion killed Quynh immediately at the scene while her daughter died in hospital 13 days later.
Tiem is also suspected of planting a bomb on the motorbike of a friend in June 2010 after believing the man was having an affair with his wife. The explosion blew off victim's leg.
Tiem could be sentenced to death if convicted.
