Four more whales die in New Zealand
Jan 24, 2012, 19:49 GMT
Wellington - Four more pilot whales died overnight as a pod of 39 remained stranded on a remote New Zealand beach Wednesday, having returned to shore after a squad of volunteers refloated them, according to local media reports.
A total of 38 of the original pod of 99 stranded on Farewell Spit, at the top of the South Island, have now died.
The others failed to refloat themselves during the night and volunteers said they would again try to help them reach open water with the morning's high tide.
