Four killed in attempt to defuse old bomb in Philippines
Jan 25, 2012, 11:01 GMT
Manila - Four people were killed Wednesday when an old bomb exploded while being defused in an ironwork shop in the Philippines, police said.
Eight people were also wounded in the blast in the Manila suburban city of Taguig, said Director Allan Purisima, chief of the police force in the capital.
Three police officers took the vintage bomb to an ironwork shop in the Manila suburban city of Taguig 'with the intention of defusing it,' Purisima said.
But the shop owner used welding gear on the bomb, causing the explosion that killed him, two police officers and the owner of a nearby bakery.
