Taiwan man dies after marathon online gaming session

Feb 3, 2012, 5:03 GMT

Taipei - A Taiwan man has died after playing a computer game at an internet cafe for 23 straight hours, local media reported Friday.

Police found the body of 23-year-old Chen Rong-yu slumped in a chair at the cafe in the Taipei area on Wednesday, with his hands stretched out towards the keyboard and mouse, according to the news website Apple Daily.

Cafe employees said Chen walked in late Tuesday and sat down at a corner computer terminal. He took frequent nap breaks, so staff were not alarmed to see him apparently resting.

The following night, a female employee tried to wake him, but found his body was cold and called police.

Chen's family told authorities that he received treatment for a heart condition in September. Police said they were still investigating the cause of death, but suspected that a combination of fatigue, lack of movement and the cold weather could have caused blood clots and a heart attack.

Chen was playing the League of Legends, an online multi-player battle game developed by Garena, a Singapore-based gaming service.
