Vietnam arrests nine suspected members of "reactionary" group
Feb 7, 2012, 3:41 GMT
Hanoi - Police in southern Vietnam have arrested nine men suspected of being members of a 'reactionary' political group, state media said.
The men were being investigated for 'abusing democratic freedom,' Vietnam News Agency quoted chief of Phu Yen provincial police, Pham Van Hoa, as saying in a report late Monday.
The group Hoi dong cong luat cong an Bia Son is a non-violent organization aimed at overthrowing the people's administration, Hoa said.
The pro-democracy group has forecast that the Vietnamese Communist Party would come to an end in 2013 and the group would have the chance to take power.
The group's leader Phan Van Thu, 64, has been arrested and put in re-education camps many times, the report said.
The arrests were made in raids Sunday and included the founding members of the group.
