Two scorpion species discovered in Vietnam

Hanoi - Scientists discovered two previously unknown species of cave-dwelling scorpion in central Vietnam, authorities said Tuesday.
The scorpions were identified for the first time in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in central Vietnam, the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources said.
The species, which have no eyes, belong to the pseudochactidae family, he said. Only two other species of the family are known to scientists, one in Laos and the other in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
The discovery is a contribution to biodiversity in Vietnam, Sac said, but increasing human encroachment is threatening the habitat.
The find was made with the help of a German-funded project to promote biodiversity in the park through preservation and careful management of natural resources.
