Another one-horse race for wonder mare Black Caviar
Feb 11, 2012, 6:40 GMT
Sydney - The world's fastest horse made it 18 victories in 18 starts in Melbourne on Saturday, winning by more than three lengths in her first race longer than 1,200 metres.
Trainer Peter Moody said Black Caviar would be back next week, and probably the week after that, to boost her winnings beyond 4.75 million Australian dollars (5 million US dollars) and her tally to a record-setting 20 out of 20.
The 600-kilogram mare left her rivals behind as she pushed for home in the 1,400-metre race.
'What she does to good horses is unbelievable,' Moody said. 'It's amazing. We've never pushed her.'
Again, she was not even at full stretch. 'I gave her a shake at 50 yards (50 metres) or so, then I throttled down,' jockey Luke Nolen said.
Racing fans from around the world were in the 30,000-strong crowd to see her run. Those who backed her received just 5 cents for each dollar they put down.
Valued at 6 million Australian dollars - more than her weight in beluga caviar - the horse will fly to Britain to take on her European rivals in the 1,200-metres Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.
