Indonesian nationals evacuated from Syria
Feb 16, 2012, 6:57 GMT
Jakarta - Thirty-seven Indonesians were scheduled to arrive in Jakarta Thursday after being evacuated from Syria, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday.
The Indonesian embassy in Damascus helped the 18 migrant workers, 17 students and their families leave Syria, the ministry said in the 11th month of a crackdown by Syrian forces on dissent, which has killed thousands of people.
Six of the workers were evacuated from conflict areas, two of them from Homs, where the violence has been centred.
A previous evacuation effort this month sent home seven Indonesian workers.
Ninety-eight workers remain at the embassy in Damascus awaiting exit permits and work contract settlements.
