At least 15 die as China tour bus plunges into ravine
Feb 25, 2012, 7:09 GMT
Beijing - At least 15 people died when a tourist bus plunged 50 metres into a ravine in the northern Chinese province of Shanxi on Saturday, state media reported.
The bus was carrying 34 people when it veered off a road in Gaoping county near Jincheng city, the semi-official China News Service reported.
The agency quoted local officials as saying the other 19 had been rescued.
It showed a photograph of the badly damaged bus lying on its side among boulders in the dry valley at the bottom of the ravine.
Survivors were treated at two local hospitals, the agency said without giving details.
The bus was operated by a state-run firm from Sanmenxia city in neighbouring Henan province. It was en route to Henan's Jiyuan city when it crashed, reports said.
