Taiwan's Computex to attract more than 30,000 overseas buyers

Taipei - Taiwan's Computex, the world's second largest computer show, opened Tuesday in Taipei, with organizers expecting the fair to attract more than 30,000 overseas buyers. 'It shouldn't be a problem for this year's Computex to attract more than 30,000 buyers, as 30,275 buyers were drawn to Taiwan for the show last year,' said Walter Yeh, executive vice president of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, which co-organises the show with the Taipei Computer Association. Yeh said although Computex is still not able to beat Hannover's CeBIT - the world's largest computer show - it has grown significantly in the past two decades. At its 27th year now, Computex has grown into a significant world event over the years. Yeh said the show this time features 'the best products from our best companies, which certainly will attract buyers to place a lot of orders.' He estimated the amount to top 15 US billion dollars, up from 12.7 billion US dollars last year. This year's show focuses on ultra-portability and wireless connectivity to fit in with the latest trend of electronic mobility, organisers said. The first four days of the five-day show are solely opened to buyers, and the public can visit on the last day on Saturday, they said. A total of 1,333 exhibitors, including major players from Taiwan and abroad, take part in the show, up slightly from 1,326 last year, organizers said. © 2007 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
