Germany provides 22-million-euro assistance grant to Nepal
Jun 22, 2007, 10:11 GMT
Kathmandu - The government of Germany Friday announced 22 million euros to Nepal as grant assistance for renewable energy and health related programmes.
The German embassy in Kathmandu said Nepal and Germany had signed a new intergovernmental agreement on financial cooperation and extension of German assisted development programmes.
Of the total grant, 10 million euros would be spent on health and family planning programmes and 12 million euros would go to the construction of Marsyangdi Hydropower electric Project, one of the biggest power projects in Nepal.
An embassy statement said the funds were intended for projects supported by KfW Development Bank, a German financing agency located in Frankfurt.
The intergovernmental agreement on financial cooperation is a follow-up to the Intergovernmental negotiations held in Kathmandu in November 2006, the statement said.
