Yangon - PTT Exploration and Production International Limited (PTTEPI) of Thailand has found natural gas in its Block M-9 offshore concession indicating a reserve of 8 trillion cubic feet, media reports said Tuesday.
PTTEPI and its partner the state-owned Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise recently found commercial gas deposits at its offshore Zawtika-5 Well in Block M-9, said The New Light of Myanmar newspaper.
'The finding of the gas deposit in Block M-9 Offshore Mottama is excellent potential for further drilling. It is estimated that Zawtika-5 Well will be able to produce eight trillion cubit feet,' said the newspaper, a government mouthpiece.
PTTEPI also reported the findings to the Stock Exchange of Thailand but did not mention the estimate of a 8-trillion-cubic-feet reserve.
Exports of natural gas to Thailand is military-run Myanmar's main foreign-exchange earner.
