IFA consumer electronics show opens in Berlin
Aug 31, 2007, 8:51 GMT
Berlin - The IFA consumer-electronics show opened Friday for a six-day run in the German capital Berlin amid a continuing boom in European sales of flat-panel televisions.
Some 1,212 exhibitors from 32 nations are showing entertainment equipment at IFA, one of the world's three big shows in the sector alongside the annual fairs in Las Vegas and Tokyo.
Retailers usually place billions of euros of orders with importers and manufacturers during the event. Last year, 220,000 visitors came to see glamourous hostesses demonstrate shiny equipment at the sprawling fairground.
Televisions dominate current sales, with European buyers impressed by the thinner shape and sharp pictures of the new flat screens.
Other hot items displayed at the fair include the latest models of digital cameras, MP3 players, sat-nav systems for cars, mobile phones and notebook computers.
