India's Suzlon bags two orders in Australia

Nov 19, 2007, 7:52 GMT

New Delhi - India's Suzlon Energy Ltd on Monday said its wholly-owned subsidiary in Australia has won two contracts to supply wind turbine capacity totalling more than 200 megawatts (MW).

Suzlon Energy, ranked as Asia's largest wind turbine manufacturer, gave no financial details of the deals.

'Suzlon Energy Australia Pty Ltd, the step-down wholly owned subsidiary of the company, has signed for two major new orders in Australia,' Suzlon said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

'The contracts totalling over 200 MW of capacity were signed with Sydney's Renewable Power Ventures and utility major AGL Energy,' it added.

Suzlon said the contract with RPV was for the delivery of 63 units of wind turbines with 132 MW capacity while the AGL Energy order was for the delivery of 34 units of wind turbines. Both projects are scheduled for completion in 2009.

Suzlon, which has an annual turnover of 867 million dollars, has manufacturing facilities in Belgium, China, India and the United States.

The company, which has posted growth of between 90 to 140 per cent over the past three years, recently said it has plans to export products to 40 countries including those in Europe as well as South Africa and South Korea.
