Six-hour rail strike begins in Hungary
Nov 21, 2007, 6:11 GMT
Budapest - Railway workers in Hungary began a six-hour strike Wednesday morning that is to hit both local and international rail traffic and was expected to bring travel chaos.
The country's two largest railway workers unions called the strike beginning at 6 am (0500 GMT) to protest the government's planned closure of 38 regional rail lines.
The strike followed work stoppages of two hours on October 25, November 7 and Tuesday.
Not only would Wednesday's action be longer, but the railway workers are also to be joined by trade unions from other sectors that are to protest changes to health-care and pension systems. Bus drivers in two regions are among them. They plan to stop work for two hours.
