ASEAN business travellers to receive fast visas to India
Dec 19, 2007, 2:52 GMT
Singapore - South-East Asian business travellers who apply for visas to India are now able to receive them on the same day, the high commission in Singapore said on Wednesday.
The speedy visa move was proposed by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during the summit between the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and India last month.
In proposing that India and ASEAN set a trade target of 50 billion US dollars by 2010, Singh suggested simplifying 'the visa regime for businessmen to travel from India to ASEAN and vice versa.'
ASEAN groups Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.
India's high commission in Singapore expects to issue more than 80,000 visas this year, an increase of 21 per cent from 2007.
