Dec 21, 2007, 9:22 GMT
Paris - French industrial group Bollore and Italian automobile sub-contractor Pininfarina have agreed to work together to produce an all-electric car by the year 2009, Bollore said Friday.
Cost of the project is estimated at 150 million euros (215 million dollars). It will be produced by a subsidiary in which each company will have a 50-per-cent share, Bollore said in a press statement.
The automobile will seat four and be equipped with a Lithium Metal Polymer battery with sufficient power to drive 250 kilometres in an urban setting before being recharged. The car will be able to attain a speed of 50 kilometres per hour in 4.9 seconds and have a top speed of 130kph.
The vehicle will bear the name Pinifarina and be sold in Europe, the United States and Japan beginning in 2008, with first deliveries scheduled for the summer of 2009.
